About Us

From a lime kiln to a cakery...

the Clock Tower was originally a 16th century lime kiln. Lime was brought on to the beach and then up the hill by donkey. Due to the Clock Tower's important strategic position overlooking the sea and Jurassic coastline it played a crucial role as a gunnery defending the south coast during World War II.

In 1991, the Grade II listed building was respectfully and painstakingly restored by the Fraser Family to include the necessary structural alterations and improvements evident today. Throughout all of these dramatic works, they ensured that this iconic tower has retained its integrity and beauty whilst providing a sensational setting for all to enjoy.

And now in 2021, after 30 years within the same family, The Clock Tower has transferred to us, Lewis and Suzy Macleod who as the new custodians of the building are determined to breath new life into the cafe bringing new dining experiences to the local community.

Previously a tax accountant, Lewis discovered cookery following illness and in 2016 left his job to re-train at Leith's School of Food & Wine in London graduating with distinction. Following stages at some of London's best restaurants, he began preparing for his new role as cafe owner 2 years ago leading the kitchen at The Rude Health Cafe with a focus on fresh seasonal food and amazing coffee!

We both look forward to welcoming you to The Clock Tower where we hope our Scottish roots shine through in our hospitality and our tasty morsels entice you to visit again and again.
